Asunto: Solicitud urgente de protección humanitaria (TPS) para venezolanos en Estados Unidos ante la tragedia de los terremotos del 24 de junio de 2026.

Nos dirigimos a ustedes en nombre de Veppex (Venezolanos en el Exilio Político) para solicitar respetuosamente que la Comisión impulse de manera urgente la designación de un nuevo Estatus de Protección Temporal (TPS) para los ciudadanos venezolanos que actualmente residen en Estados Unidos, ante la grave emergencia humanitaria provocada por los terremotos del 24 de junio de 2026. Los sismos han causado miles de muertos, decenas de miles de heridos, cientos de miles de damnificados y la destrucción masiva de infraestructura en varias regiones del país. La capacidad del Estado venezolano para responder a esta crisis es claramente insuficiente, lo que agrava la ya crítica situación humanitaria, económica y política que vive Venezuela desde hace años. En estas circunstancias, retornar a Venezuela no es una opción segura para miles de venezolanos que se encuentran en Estados Unidos. Otorgar TPS sería una medida humanitaria coherente con la tradición estadounidense de protección temporal en casos de desastres naturales y crisis graves. Solicitamos formalmente que la Comisión:
- Apoye públicamente la redesignación inmediata de TPS para Venezuela.
- Insté al Departamento de Seguridad Nacional y a la Casa Blanca a activar esta protección.
- Incluya esta recomendación en el informe o conclusiones de la audiencia del próximo 15 de julio de 2026.

On behalf of Veppex (Venezolanos en el Exilio Político), we respectfully urge the Commission to urgently support the designation of a new Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelan citizens currently residing in the United States, in light of the severe humanitarian emergency caused by the earthquakes of June 24, 2026. The earthquakes have resulted in thousands of deaths, tens of thousands of injuries, hundreds of thousands of displaced people, and massive destruction of infrastructure across several regions of the country. The Venezuelan state’s capacity to respond to this crisis is clearly insufficient, further exacerbating the already critical humanitarian, economic, and political situation that Venezuela has faced for years. Under these circumstances, returning to Venezuela is not a safe option for thousands of Venezuelans living in the United States. Granting TPS would be a humanitarian measure consistent with the long-standing U.S. tradition of providing temporary protection in cases of natural disasters and grave crises. We formally request that the Commission:
- Publicly support the immediate redesignation of TPS for Venezuela.
- Urge the Department of Homeland Security and the White House to activate this protection.
- Include this recommendation in the report or conclusions of the hearing scheduled for July 15, 2026.
